Metalheadz's Blue Note night in London and listening to DJ Rap at a boat party in Paris in 1997 were the defining moments for the artist to commit himself for D&B. Back at Istanbul, he started DJing at NRG-F.M. where he pioneered drum n bass in Turkey. In 2001, right after he got his BA in Film and TV, he moved to London to study Sound Recording and Music Technology at Islington Music Workshop. Financing his studio equipment by working at hotels and restaurants at that time, Can sent his first tune to GLR and the positive feedback from LTJ Bukem clearly encouraged him.

He has been DJ'ing at various parties and clubs since 1997 and at Dinamo FM since 2003. He is running n.u.g. studios in Istanbul together with his mates where they produce house music, music for commercials and remixes for major Turkish artists. He also works in film business, translating and subtitling various films for TV channels and DVD's.

DJ Look
DJ Look  ·

Look (real name Nikolajus or Nikolai) was born in Vilnius, Lithuania. At the age of 8 he started taking piano lessons for 10 years, four of them were jazz improvisation lessons. Musical influences were art-rock and hard rock, grunge. At that time he started playing keyboards and bass in one of the local grunge groups for about year or two. Somewhere at that time he listened to a few records of early jungle (Tek9) and trip-hop music (DJ Vadim). That was the beginning of the new era in music for Look.

The first attempts to do something himself were made using trackers. After a few years of attempting production with software, he meets DJ Emery again (they met first time in university couple of years before) and collaborates on a drum'n'bass remix competition for the Drum'n'Bass Arena website. There was no win in that competition, but there was good start and a strong decision about production was made.

Numerous liquid and jump up drum'n'bass tunes were produced using sequencers and, later, VST. All of them were played at local parties. A lot of information was learnt from books and web forums like dogsonacid.com about production, mix down and mastering at that time.

After a while Look started DJ'ing himself and promoting his production. Later, he created a studio with DJ Emery and Mark Splinter and some experience was shared within the team. After that a number of tunes produced, which were played in Russia and Lithuania on various radio stations. Demos were sent to labels, and there was positive response from DJ Rap and her label Propa Talent. The rest is history.
